Dramatic Rehab Underway At the Purple Haze Stable
By EARL HARVEY
We here at the Finger Lakes Thoroughbred Adoption Center are pleased and proud to announce that the desperately needed regrading and rebuilding of our paddocks is now underway!
You may be wondering why and how it is that I – the stable’s resident donkey and unlicensed concierge – am bringing you the news. It wouldn’t have been possible in the recent past, but it’s all thanks to A.I. which, as I’m sure you’ve heard by now, stands for Animal Ingenuity.
My daily workload here at Purple Haze is somewhat lighter than that of our barn manager, Melissa Porter, and her assistant, Lauren Guerrera. I am, after all, 19 years old. So I’ve had more time to look on as the excavators, backhoes and their crews rolled in. As the sagacious Yogi Berra once noted, you can observe a lot just by watching. Once the groundwork is all done, construction will begin on the new corrals, safer for both horses and staff.
Though we were able to break ground while the weather is on our side, it stretched FLTAP’S finances – so we still need support from Western New York’s corporate community to see the project to fruition. In gratitude for a tax-deductible grant, we offer a variety of ways to recognize the participation of a company or organization, connecting them to our extended community of followers region-wide.
The centerpiece of our rewards program is a large banner in our arena, where my stable-mates are filmed while training virtually every day. These videos are viewed by the more than 16,000 unique members of our social media platforms, ensuring countless impressions over the course of a year.
Our other image- and team-building rewards include office displays, signage at your sponsored horse’s stall, your logo and URL on our Web site, participation in our popular family events – and even a tribute brick in our courtyard. A grant of $500 or more would ensure business-sector exclusivity in our visibility programs.
Donations in any amount are welcome, and we deeply appreciate the support we’ve received. Your gift will help Purple Haze continue its important, humane work. FLTAP has found new homes and new roles for retired racehorses at a rate of one per week for the last decade.
If your organization or business would like to be part of our recognition program as a sponsor, please contact FLTAP volunteer Peter Drumsta at 914.806.0928 or pjdrumsta@gmail.com.
Thanks to adoptions, the “cast” here at Purple Haze Stable is constantly changing, so stop by to meet me and treat the latest arrivals. You can visit daily except Sundays and Thursdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Yes, it’s true, we have long faces. But we’re far from unhappy.
Gratefully.
